CrossFit Games 2021 is nearing and many participants are excited. Besides the usual competitions like the men's, women's events will also take place. We're all familiar with the Reebok's equipment, the Pegboard contest, and the Cutting system. But what do we know about the womens' competition? Keep reading to find out! Women's competition

The 2021 Crossfit Games' women's competition started this morning with the swim race. Jonne Koski, Tia-Clair Toomey Orr, and TiaClair Toomey Orr were the winners in the first event. After maintaining her lead throughout competition, Koski was declared the overall winner. Tall and Eramooo O’Connell came second and three respectively. It was the first Games women's event and the women hoped to complete it.

The women’s competition is populated with high-level competitors. Nine athletes are represented in the field, including a young Australian powerhouse who won last year's competition. Kara Saunders, an Australian athlete who finished second in Australia in the team division and eleventh overall in 2020 is another contender. Andrea Nisler (who competed as a team in the 2018 division, finishing third in the United States and fifteenth overall for 2020) is another rising star. In addition to these athletes, the Women's competition will also feature a newcomer to the sport - Icelandan competitor Sara Sigmundsdottir, who won the first place medal in the World Crossfit Games earlier this year.

Pegboard contest

Pegboard contest at Crossfit Games 2121 was a new concept. It was added to Crossfit Games' summer Olympic program alongside double-unders & dumbbell overhead Squats. With 30 wins, Toomey-Orr holds the record for the most Games events won. Sager won Event 11 for the men and took home his third Games victory. There were several tie in the contest but Toomey Orr's dominance was too strong to stop him winning.

CrossFit Games are a competition where athletes focus on ten skills that improve their physical fitness: speed, agility, cardiovascular endurance, strength and flexibility. Pegboard competition tests competitors' grip strength, coordination, and speed. Two wooden pegs are held between the hands of each competitor to gauge their grip strength. After completing the Pegboard, the competition was intense and athletes felt a sense of accomplishment.


System of cutting

CrossFit Games has a new cutting system for individual competition. While it's not as extreme or drastic as in previous Games, this year is very different. Because the competition is made up of 15 events, a cut to 30 athletes after the seventh or eighth event is very likely. CrossFit's decision on how to adjust the points distributed after cuts remains a question. It's probable that the scoring table used for the 2019 games will remain nearly the same as the one used in 2021.

This year's CrossFit Games Field includes 236 athletes. This is the largest field in its history. The six first events lead to major cuts. The field is reduced down to 75 athletes. The top 30 then compete in a sprint couplet to determine the top ten. The top 20 athletes then compete in six more events. Castro's system was criticized by veterans Games participants who felt the cuts were too large.

Reebok equipment

Reebok recently announced new CrossFit Games equipment, including clothing and shoes. The Nano X1 are the new shoes. They can be used for multiple fitness goals. Reebok has billed this shoe as "the shoe of fitness," but it actually feels more like a traditional training shoe. DuPont’s Kevlar material is used to make the upper of this shoe, which promotes breathability as well as durability. The shoe's responsiveness can be enhanced by its firm midsole and RopePro Tech.

CrossFit's agreement with Reebok will end at 2020. No title sponsor will be available for the Games. The Games have been sponsored by Reebok for over a decade, and it's now clear that the company's involvement will be decreasing. Reebok won’t pay for the Games’ prize, but they will continue to make all athletic apparel, equipment, and gear worn by athletes. The company won't refer to itself as "Reebok crossfit games" anymore.
