CrossFit has had four very memorable years. Rich Froning, the winner of the CrossFit Games 2011, has won the Individual Competition in four out of five years. He took his first CrossFit Open Gold Medal in 2010. This was followed by four CrossFit Games Men's titles. After switching to CrossFit Mayhem Freedom in 2015, Froning won four CrossFit Games men's titles. Froning also won the Central East Regional title and the Games for the second time in a row.

Froning was a baseball player on a scholarship but didn't enjoy the sport. Instead, he enrolled at Tennessee Tech to study exercise science. He worked as a Cookeville, Tennessee firefighter. After graduating from college, he worked again as a Tennessee Tech assistant strength coach and a firefighter. He discovered CrossFit and was so inspired that he began to train with a CrossFit group.
